The Bavarian State Mint introduced the African Wildlife Series in 1999. At the time, the collection was available as the Zambia Elephant Series. This continued through 2003, with the series shifting to Somalia in 2004. Over the course of time, the coins have maintained the use of new reverse designs with each date mark.

All of the 2022 Somalia Gold Elephant First Struck 6-Coin Collections come with a beautiful wooden display box. Lift open the lid and you will find six coins inside, each one encapsulated individually. The interior of the box has an acrylic, clear lid that is sealed by a hologram. There is a Certificate of Authenticity included with each set that features individual serial numbers for each set. On the obverse of 2022 Gold Elephant First Struck 6-Coin Collection specimens is an image of the national coat of arms. The Somali coat of arms comes with a crowned shield that has a background field of horizontal lines with a single star at the center. The shield is supported by heraldic leopards on each side, with crossed fern leaves and spears below.

The reverse field of the gold coins in the 2022 Somalia Elephant First Struck 6-Coin Collections comes with an image of an African bush elephant herd. In this design, the adult elephant is shown walking along the savanna with its young calf at its side. The two are in left-profile relief with birds overhead and trees on the horizon in the background.
